At Neurofocus, our autism assessments for individuals aged 18 and over are conducted by a Senior Clinical Psychologist using gold-standard diagnostic tools. The process provides clarity on whether autism may be present, while also considering other possible explanations such as anxiety, mood-related conditions or ADHD.

We begin by reviewing any available background information—such as past psychological reports, school records, or prior assessments—to gain an understanding of your developmental and social history.
You will be asked to complete screening questionnaires to assess areas such as mood, anxiety, and attention-related symptoms. This helps us identify any co-occurring challenges that may need support.
To better understand your childhood development, we ask a parent or someone who knew you well growing up to share their insights. This supports a more accurate diagnostic picture.
A structured interview will be carried out with your parent or informant to explore your developmental history and early behaviours.
You will take part in a direct observation session designed to assess communication, social interaction, and behavioural features that are characteristic of autism.
We examine how you manage day-to-day tasks such as communication, relationships, independence, and self-care to understand your strengths and challenges in real-life contexts.
If there are concerns about intellectual functioning or learning difficulties, a Cognitive Assessment may also be included.
